Quick Post – Saving on Trips

Things are a little busy right now…tomorrow is our last day of classes for this semester and we’re heading out to visit my family for Christmas (haven’t spent a Christmas with them in 6 years!). I’m sure you’re all busy right now too, but I had a few moments and thought I’d make a quick post.

We’re doing a few things to keep this trip a little cheaper:

  1. Buying gas with a Wal-Mart giftcard. I’d seen the signs that say you can get 10 cents off each gallon of gas if you purchase it with a gift-card and we bought our first tank-full with a giftcard just yesterday. I think this offer is only good for a little while longer, but at least it will help for the drive up.
  2. I made up a jug of chocolate milk and one of ice-coffee, plus I have other drinks and snacks for the road, so we won’t be so tempted to buy munchies at convenience stores where it’s more expensive.
  3. I’ll pack bean and cheese burritos for our lunch tomorrow, that’s such a dirt cheap meal, especially compared to eating out, although we will eat the rest of our meals out while on the road.

Homemade ice-coffee and chocolate milk for the road....so much cheaper than buying bottled drinks!

What’s your favorite way to spend less on a road trip?
